Hurricane Wilma Threatens South Florida
Come Monday October 24, 2005, we will be under the influence of yet another hurricane of this most amazing season. Current predictions show it will be a Cat 2 or Cat 1 by the time it arrives over our home, so we aren't too worried about it at this point. The big problem is how long its been sitting over the Ycatan Peninsula and not getting on with where its going to go next. I suspect that the devastation in Mexico will be just as epic as New Orleans was from Katrina due to the immense power of the storm and the painfully slow movement. for several hours where was no recorded movement of the eye (zero mph), however now at 11:00AM EDT, it is racing away at a whopping 2 mph.
Is the cycle at its peak? are we just beginning the ramp up to something much more catastrphic?
I guess I really wanted to get the word out to our family that aren't in florida that these things are REAL, the pictures of destruction are not 'somplace else', they are here and they are happening to people you know and love. A co-workers family showed up at his door a week after Katrina hit and they had no belongings. None. Donate to the Red Cross, Give blood to you local blood bank. These are American citizens, not starving children on a continent you will never visit. I've been to New Orleans, and I've been to Cozumel. They are real places with real people who have dreams and loves and lives, all of which are now challenged to the extreme.
